Amid the outbreak of coronavirus, a new virus has been found in China. A man from Yunnan Province died in China due to Hantavirus. The man was travelling to Shandong Province for work on a bus with 32 other people. According to the media reports he was tested positive of hantavirus

Hantavirus has also created panic on social media as people are relating it to another COVID-19, ready to cause a new pandemic.

Through this article, we have tried to explain the symptoms and treatment of Hantavirus. People are advised neither to get panic nor to believe on any rumours.

What is Hantavirus?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a statement defining the Hantavirus meaning and symptoms. According to the CDC, Hantavirus is spread mainly by rodents that carry the virus and can cause varied diseases in people.

It can result in hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) and haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). Hantaviruses are found mostly in Europe and Asia.

How does it cause?

Like novel coronavirus (COVID-19), HPS can’t be passed on from person to person while HFRS transmission between people is extremely rare. So people don’t have to get panic from this virus syndrome.

Hantavirus is not an airborne disease. If someone touches their eyes, nose or mouth after touching rodent droppings, urine, feces, saliva or bitten by an infected host then there are the chances of a person to get suffered from Hantavirus.

What are the Symptoms?

If we talk about the early symptoms of HPS, a person faces fatigue, fever, and muscle aches, along with headaches, dizziness, chills and abdominal problems.

According to CDC, if no treatment would be taken early stage then it will lead to coughing and shortness of breath. It can be fatal with a mortality rate of 38 percent.

While the initial symptoms of HFRS are nearly the same. A person will get suffered from low blood pressure, acute shock, vascular leakage, and acute kidney failure.

What is the treatment?

No adequate treatment of Hantavirus has been found so far. However, it can be cured by taking medical treatment at the initial stage. Also, keep rodents out of your home and workplace. If you find any rodent material such as dead mice, droppings, etc., do not stir up dust by vacuuming, sweeping, or any other means otherwise you will get hantavirus by breathing in the air.
